Cleaning Your Office Single Cup Coffee Machine

Cleaning out the office 12-cup coffee pot back in the day was simple. Cleaning your K-cup coffee machine is just as important, but has a few more steps. You want to be sure your Hazelnut Decaf doesn’t taste like the Extra Bold blend the person before you used. Here’s some tips for regular cleaning from our New Jersey [link id=”447″ title=”New Jersey Office Coffee Services”]office coffee service company[/link] with items you already have in  your office.

Clean the Brewer

Open the cover of your [link id=”447″ title=”New Jersey Single Cup Coffee Service”]single cup coffee[/link] machine carefully – there’s a sharp needle at the top of the opened cover. Remove the plastic piece that holds the K-cup into place by pressing on the nubs at the bottom (if you’re looking at the holder like it’s a clock, they’re at 4:30 and 8:30) and it will release easily. That funnel piece can be cleaned in the dishwasher or hand washed. There is a sharp needle inside of the funnel as well, so be careful when you are cleaning that area out.

Clean the open area attached to the machine with a lightly soaped sponge or paper towel, and rinse well.

Return the clean funnel to your machine with the arrow lining up at the top and snap it back into place.

Clean the Needles

There are two needles on the machine that are often overlooked in cleaning that can be the culprit for an odd-tasting brew. The first needle is attached to the cover of the machine, and the second one is inside of the k-cup holder funnel. Use a straightened paper clip to clean the excess coffee grounds out of these holes. Wiggle the paperclip once inside to be sure you remove everything that’s in there. The paperclip should be able to go in about one inch – it should not come out on the other side.

Cleaning the Drip Tray

The drip tray and its cover easily slide out from the bottom of the machine. These items can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand. Wipe down the dispenser and area below it to ensure there is no leftover reside in those areas.

Cleaning the Water Reservoir

The water reservoir and cover on the left hand side of the machine comes unattached when you move it up and to the left. These two items are not dishwasher safe, so handwash them with warm soapy water. Be sure to rinse it out well so your next cup of Sleepytime Tea doesn’t taste like Soapytime.
